Senate President Godswill Akpabio publicly denied ever being a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) during a plenary session. He made the remark while responding to a motion to honour the late former governor of Kogi State, Ibrahim Idris. The motion was sponsored by Senator Jibrin Isah, who recalled that Idris was a PDP member and that they had all belonged to the party at the time. Akpabio interrupted, stating he was never in the PDP and had always been a progressive.
