Ondo State Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa and Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo owe their political standing to President Bola Tinubu, according to observers who describe their current friction as a family dispute. In 2023, Aiyedatiwa, then deputy governor, faced an impeachment attempt backed by all 26 members of the Ondo Assembly amid factional fighting around the late Governor Rotimi Akeredolu. Tinubu summoned both sides to Abuja and ordered the impeachment dropped, allowing Aiyedatiwa to remain in office, succeed Akeredolu upon his death, and later win a term of his own. Tunji-Ojo, popularly called BTO, was a federal lawmaker with regional influence until August 2023, when Tinubu appointed him Minister of Interior.
