A wooden boat carrying more than 70 mourners and over 30 motorcycles capsized on the River Katsina-Ala at the Buruku Local Government Area crossing point in Benue State. The incident occurred at about 11 am on Saturday as the mourners, mostly from Mbayon in Gboko LGA, were returning from a burial. Several passengers were rescued, while search and rescue operations continued for those still missing. An eyewitness said the boat was heavily overloaded and its engine developed a fault midway.
