The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has intercepted consignments of Loud, a potent strain of cannabis, and codeine-based cough syrup with a combined street value of more than N5 billion at the Apapa, Tin Can Island and Onne ports. The seizures followed intelligence gathering and tracking of the shipments from their points of origin, according to NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi. Officers at the three ports conducted joint examinations of watch-listed containers with the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies. At Apapa Port, two containers from Bangkok, Thailand, were subjected to 100 per cent examination, and a search of one container on September 3 yielded 161 parcels of Thai Loud weighing 124kg and valued at N372 million.
