An Islamic scholar and Chief Imam of Olabisi Onabanjo University (OOU), Ago-Iwoye, Ogun State, Professor Abdulhakeem Adebayo Akanni, has attributed the low level of trust Nigerians have in government institutions to perceived exclusion, unequal development, political patronage and the denial of citizens' rights. Akanni stated this in Abeokuta while delivering the 19th Annual State Lecture of the Muslim Congress (TMC), Ogun State, titled "National Cohesion, Sustainable Security and Civil Trust: From Policy to Performance." The lecture was part of week-long activities that commenced with the organisation's Quarterly Public Lecture, Free Medical Outreach and Fire-Fighting Enlightenment Programme at the Olowu Palace, Owu, Abeokuta. TMC structures at various local government levels across Ogun State also carried out humanitarian activities.
