World Trade Organisation Director General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said 72 per cent of global goods trade is still conducted under WTO rules despite mounting disruptions to the global economy. She cited aggressive tariff policies of the Donald Trump administration, US-China tensions and the impact of the Iran war on energy markets as sources of strain. Speaking with CNN's Fareed Zakaria at the weekend, she said the resilience of the multilateral trading system had surprised even WTO officials, noting that businesses continue to rely on the stability and predictability of the organisation's rules. She also said green trade has exceeded $2 trillion and expressed optimism about the future of free trade.
