Professor Mohammed Laminu Mele, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Maiduguri, discussed the security situation at the university, the role of the Borno State Government, violent extremism, and other topics in an interview on Trust TV's 30-Minutes programme. He said the security situation is improving but that the university still lives with the constant fear of attacks due to instances in surrounding communities. He noted that the university is located at the extreme end of Maiduguri, bordering Konduga and Jere, and has put in place security measures. He also spoke on the preservation of Borno's history and culture, university funding, staff unions, and the new student loan scheme, stating that NELFUND has helped a substantial number of students.
