The All Progressives Congress (APC) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC) engaged in a verbal war over comments attributed to ADC Vice Presidential candidate Rotimi Amaechi regarding his mother's death. Amaechi had said in a television interview that the rising cost of medicines made it difficult for him to provide the drugs his mother needed. The APC responded by stating that Amaechi was incapable of earning a living outside public office, while the ADC criticized the APC for attacking Amaechi, saying a mother's death should not be politicized. Mary Amaechi died on July 16, 2026, at the age of 89.
