The National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) has issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Government to resolve outstanding agreements or face industrial action, following its 46th Annual General Meeting in Calabar. The association cited grievances including remuneration that no longer reflects economic realities, delayed career progression and professional allowances, unpaid entitlements to house officers, excessive workload due to manpower shortages, poor infrastructure and equipment, assaults on health workers, and the continuing migration of doctors. NARD also called for stronger health-sector funding. The development comes amid a decades-long cycle of agreements, delays, ultimatums, strikes, and renewed negotiations in Nigeria's public health system, with repeated NARD strike actions recorded almost every year.
