Uganda's Finance Minister, Henry Musasizi, has called on Members of Parliament to support efforts to broaden the tax base as the government seeks to raise domestic revenue and reduce dependence on borrowing. Speaking at a Uganda Revenue Authority engagement with Parliamentary committees in Kampala, Musasizi said the government aims to increase the revenue-to-GDP ratio from 14.7% to 20% by FY2029/30. He emphasized that additional revenue should come from economic growth, formalisation, improved compliance, and better tax administration rather than higher tax rates.
