HR org SHRM heads to court in latest workplace discrimination case

The Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) is set to face a jury trial on October 6 over allegations that it mishandled a job applicant's request for a disability accommodation. The plaintiff, Fiona Torres, claims that SHRM offered her a role as a senior specialist in product management in June 2024 and then revoked the offer in July because she wanted to bring her medical service dog to work. The trial follows an $11.5 million verdict against SHRM in 2025 in an unrelated race discrimination and retaliation case, which the organization is appealing. Jurors will determine whether SHRM adequately worked with the plaintiff to find a solution.
