A joint security operation involving the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services (DSS), and Western Nigeria Security Network (Amotekun) killed a senior Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) leader, Abdussamad Ohida, in Owo forest, Ondo State. Ohida, also known as Anwar, was eliminated alongside several members of the terrorist group during a surprise attack on their hideout. He had assumed leadership of ISWAP activities in parts of North Central and Southern Nigeria following the 2023 arrest of his predecessor, Abu Ikrimah. Security sources said Ohida was planning massive terrorist attacks in some southern states before he was killed.
