Afenifere, a pan-Yoruba socio-political group, has called for immediate reforms to the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme to prevent corps members from traveling long distances to states where they face kidnapping and other security threats. The demand follows the abduction of 20 graduates traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State, to NYSC orientation camps in the South-East and South-South. Afenifere urged the Federal Government to fast-track amendments to the NYSC Act, allowing graduates to serve in their states of origin, residence, or at least within their geopolitical zones. The organization also called on the Federal Government, security agencies, and the Oyo and Imo State Governments to secure the release of the abducted graduates.
