The Federal Government has raised alarm over a growing form of 'invisible dropout' in Nigerian schools, where many girls may be abandoning education emotionally and academically before being officially recorded as having left. The Minister of State for Education, Prof. Suwaiba Ahmad, said that simply seeing a child in a classroom is no longer proof that she is receiving an education. She noted that bullying, abuse, ridicule, exclusion, and unsafe school environments could gradually drive girls out of learning even while they continue to attend school. Ahmad spoke in Abuja at the National Trainers' Workshop on Safe Learning Environment, Gender-Responsive Technology and ICT Skills for Educators in Teacher Training Institutions in Nigeria.
