The Rivers State Government has sealed 21 health facilities over alleged involvement in baby trafficking and other regulatory violations. The crackdown, conducted across four local government areas by the Rivers State Ministry of Health in the third quarter of 2026, included a joint operation with the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) at Manda Clinic and Maternity, Elelenwo. According to the ministry, a Liberian national reportedly disclosed during the operation that three children had been procured from the facility within one month. The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Health, Dr Vincent Wachukwu, disclosed this on Monday during the ministry’s third-quarter press briefing in Port Harcourt, stating that the enforcement followed surveillance reports.
