Former Anambra State governor and presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, has called for improved welfare, working conditions, and professional dignity for Nigerian teachers. In a message posted on his X platform on Monday to mark World Teachers' Day, Obi described teaching as one of the most important professions in any society. He said teachers play a critical role in shaping minds, nurturing character, and preparing future citizens, professionals, and leaders. Obi urged governments to do more to improve teachers' welfare and ensure prompt payment of their salaries.
