The African Democratic Congress Presidential Campaign Council has said Nigerian teachers cannot effectively discharge their duties amid worsening economic hardship, poor welfare and deteriorating working conditions. In a statement to mark the 2026 World Teachers' Day, signed by Director of Media and Publicity Kola Ologbondiyan, the council described teachers as the backbone of national development. Ologbondiyan said teachers have continued to mould lives and sustain the educational system despite neglect and hardship. He blamed the worsening situation on the removal of petroleum subsidy without adequate cushioning measures.
