Stakeholders have raised concerns about the protection of Nigeria's digital infrastructure as data consumption continues to rise. According to the Nigerian Communications Commission, data consumption rose from about 1.13 million terabytes in July 2025 to 1.66 million terabytes in July 2026. The NCC disclosed in August that more than 5,000 fibre-cut incidents occurred in the first six months of 2026, largely from road construction, excavation and related civil works. It had earlier reported more than 50,000 fibre cuts in 2024, with about 30,000 attributed to federal and state road construction activities.
