The Federal Government and Oyo State Government have endorsed the 2026 Operation One Million Trees initiative, raising concerns over worsening environmental degradation. They warned of a potential global waste-management crisis within 15 years and a severe climate crisis within two decades if urgent action is not taken. The initiative, spearheaded by the Association for Forest Conservation and Green Industrial Charcoal Merchants, was launched at the University of Ibadan under the theme “Technology-Driven Solutions for Forest Protection.” Dr. Igbinosa Osakwe, representing the Minister of Environment, stressed the need for collaborative efforts to safeguard Nigeria's natural resources.
