How other countries are tackling fuel crisis as Nigerians await cheaper transport

As Nigerians face high transportation costs due to petrol price increases, countries in Africa, Asia, Europe, and North America have implemented measures such as fuel subsidies, tax cuts, and public transport support to cushion citizens. In Nigeria, President Bola Tinubu said state governors agreed to reduce transportation costs by October 1 through the deployment of Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) and electric vehicles in public transportation. However, Daily Trust findings indicate that several states may struggle to meet this target due to uneven distribution of CNG infrastructure, with some states having no refuelling stations and a shortage of conversion facilities.
