Abia State Governor Alex Otti approved a N1 billion appreciation fund for teachers and ordered the immediate reinstatement of disengaged teachers below the statutory retirement age of 65. He also directed the payment of outstanding salaries to teachers affected by verification issues and to 4,075 newly recruited teachers yet to receive wages. Otti gave the directives on Monday in Umuahia during the 2026 World Teachers' Day celebration. He stated that the N1 billion fund would be shared equally among all teachers in the state, regardless of when they joined the service.
