Minister of Works, Dave Umahi, has dismissed concerns that flooding could threaten the Lagos-Calabar Coastal Highway, stating that the project was designed and elevated above prevailing flood levels. He also rejected claims that the highway is responsible for flooding in parts of Lagos State. Umahi explained that pre-construction studies showed the road needed to be raised because many properties along the corridor were built decades ago when flood levels were lower. He noted that the highway runs between the ocean and the lagoon, with properties predating the effects of climate change and rising water levels.
