Residents of Igbokoda in Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State have recounted the crash of a Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft into a swampy area near the coastal community on Monday. Witnesses heard a loud explosion and saw bodies, aircraft pieces, and personal belongings scattered at the waterlogged site. The aircraft, with tail number NGR 931, was carrying 32 people—25 passengers and seven crew members—on a routine mission from Benin to Lagos when it crashed opposite the Naval Base in Igbokoda.
