The annual Eku festival in Delta State’s Ethiope East Local Government Area has been overshadowed by violence, with some natives now calling it the “Eku Feast of Blood.” According to Andrew, a sexagenarian and son of the soil, at least 15 people have been killed during the festival. Over two decades, 20 people have been killed, according to Oniovosa. The festival, once a time of celebration and reunion for the Urhobo community, now carries a darker meaning.
