The United Nations Organization Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (MONUSCO) has improved detention conditions at Mahagi prison. MONUSCO funded the construction of a medical clinic, sanitation facilities, rehabilitation of cells, lighting, and a water supply system. The facilities were presented to local authorities on Tuesday, September 30, and mattresses and blankets were also handed over. The prison currently houses 123 inmates, including six women and seven minors, and had faced challenges such as inadequate latrines, water supply, deteriorating roofs, and lack of medical care and lighting.
