The European Union has expressed alarm over the continued escalation of violence in Ethiopia and heightened regional tensions, particularly between Ethiopia and Eritrea. The EU warns that this risks triggering a broader regional conflict with severe consequences for peace and stability across the Horn of Africa. It calls for immediate de-escalation on all fronts and urges all involved to refrain from actions or rhetoric that could increase tensions. The EU also emphasizes that parties to the Permanent Cessation of Hostilities Agreement should recommit to its complete implementation within the African Union framework, and stresses the need to respect international humanitarian law, protect civilians, and ensure unhindered humanitarian access. It reiterates that the sovereignty and territorial integrity of all states must be respected and calls on external actors to refrain from interference and advance political solutions.
