The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has expressed concern over the welfare of election personnel, stating that INEC staff are the least-paid workers in Nigeria. He made this remark during a World Press Conference in Abuja on Tuesday while outlining preparations for the 2027 general elections. Amupitan emphasized that improving remuneration is necessary for staff to discharge their duties responsibly and remain accountable, especially amid concerns about the credibility of future elections. He noted that the commission has taken radical steps to improve the welfare of its workforce.
