Justice Simon Amobeda of the Federal High Court in Kano has convicted and sentenced an 18-year-old man, Abba Sani, to four months in prison for unlawful possession of 370kg of a narcotic substance believed to be cannabis sativa. Sani, a resident of Chiromawa town in Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, was arrested on August 21, 2026, by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA). He was charged under Section 19 of the NDLEA Act and pleaded guilty to the one-count charge when it was read to him. NDLEA counsel, Aminu Umar, tendered exhibits, including the analysis of the substances recovered from the convict, to support the prosecution's case. The lawyer told the court that investigation revealed that the convict was involved in narcotics trafficking, dismissing his claim that he was attending school at the time of his arrest. Defence counsel urged the court to temper justice with mercy, citing the convict's age and his claim that he was a first-time offender.
