Geoffrey Hinton, a Nobel Prize-winning computer scientist known as the "Godfather of AI," proposed an FDA-style approval system for AI models. Speaking on the "Smart Girl Dumb Questions" podcast, Hinton said companies should prove their models are safe before releasing them, similar to how drugmakers must convince the FDA. He suggested that such a process would require significant effort, akin to a billion dollars worth of work. Hinton also warned that recursive self-improvement could cause AI risks to escalate rapidly.
