Fulani leaders in Plateau State have directed cattle owners and herders to suspend the transportation of cattle to the Kara Bukuru Livestock Market in Jos South Local Government Area following recent attacks that left several people dead and injured. The directive, issued by the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN), is effective from October 6 to October 20, 2026. The suspension followed reports of attacks on herders and vehicles conveying cattle to and from the market. On Sunday, gunmen reportedly opened fire on herders returning to Bassa from the cattle market, killing two people and injuring eight others. The incident came about two weeks after another attack on September 20, when gunmen reportedly attacked herders in Kassa community, Barkin Ladi Local Government Area, killing five people and injuring another. Worried by the recurring attacks, Fulani leaders in the state, including local government chairmen, Ardos, and cattle owners, met to address the situation.
