Sub-Saharan Africa records strong trade growth as globalization reaches record level

Sub-Saharan Africa recorded strong trade value growth of 11% in the first five months of 2026 compared to the same period in 2025, according to the latest DHL Globalization Tracker. The region's growth placed it behind only East Asia and the Pacific (24%) and Europe (12%). This follows a year in which the region achieved the world's fastest trade value growth during the first six months of 2025. The report also noted that the AI boom has become a powerful driver of global trade, outweighing tariffs and geopolitical shocks, and that globalization reached a record level of 25.8%.
