The Federal Government has released eight months' salary arrears to members of the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), less than two days after the union issued a 14-day ultimatum over the implementation of the 2026 FGN/SSANU Agreement. SSANU commended the Federal Government for the release, saying it demonstrated responsiveness and underscored the commitment of the Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa, to honouring agreements with university-based unions. The union had demanded the immediate release of funds and full payment of outstanding Consolidated University Teaching and Tertiary Institutions Salary Structure (CONTTA) arrears calculated from January 1, 2026, following its 56th National Executive Council meeting at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State. SSANU had warned of consequences if the demands were not met.
