The Minister of Works, Engr. David Umahi, has warned contractors who received Federal Government funds but failed to mobilise to project sites that they risk sanctions, including action by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC). Umahi issued the warning at a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, stating that the government would no longer tolerate contractors who prioritise state projects over federal projects after collecting mobilisation funds. He said the ministry had rescoped and re-phased projects to improve implementation, and warned that contractors who collected funds must return to their sites or risk recovery of the money. He added that from next week, any contractor who has collected money and is not on site will face consequences.
