NLC shuts down FCT indefinitely

The Nigeria Labour Congress, FCT Council, has directed its members in the public and private sectors to commence an indefinite strike, shutting down schools, hospitals and government offices. The directive took effect on October 7, 2026, following the expiration of a seven-day ultimatum issued to the FCT Administration on September 8. Labour said the FCTA's response was ambiguous and dismissive and failed to address its core demand for the removal of the vacancy requirement for teachers' promotion. The NLC said the FCTA's position that teachers can only be promoted when vacancies exist is alien to the teaching profession and has caused years of career stagnation. The resolutions were signed by the council's chairman.
