The Universal Basic Education Commission (UBEC) is planning to construct over 2,200 new schools across Nigeria to reduce the number of out-of-school children. The initiative is being developed under the Public-Private Engagement Partnership (PPEP) framework, in collaboration with development agencies such as UNICEF and the organised private sector. Dr Aisha Garba, Executive Director of UBEC, stated this during a two-day workshop in Ikeja, Lagos, aimed at finalising the framework. She emphasised that education is too important to be left solely to the government, given the scale and complexity of challenges in the basic education sector.
