Corp members abducted in Imo regain freedom

The 20 corps members who were abducted on their way to the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp in Abia and Akwa Ibom States have regained freedom. They were attacked near Umunoha in Mbaitoli Local Government Area of Imo State on October 1 while traveling from Ibadan, Oyo State. The kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of N1 billion but later reduced it to N100 million. On Wednesday, they were rescued from Amakohia-Ubi forest in Owerri West Local Government Area following a coordinated operation involving security agencies. They are currently receiving medical attention at the Department of State Services (DSS) Hospital in Owerri. Governor Hope Uzodimma commended the security agencies for securing their release.
