The Sokoto State Pilgrims Welfare Agency has called for the decentralization of passport offices from Abuja and Lagos to states across the country. The agency's chairman, Alhaji Aliyu Musa, said the current arrangement creates administrative bottlenecks in processing travel documents for intending pilgrims ahead of the 2027 Hajj. He noted that restricting passport services to Abuja and Lagos puts pressure on state agencies, particularly those coordinating large numbers of pilgrims within tight timelines. Decentralizing passport services would reduce delays and ease pressure on pilgrims, he added.
