Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State visited the site of the Nigerian Air Force ATR-42 aircraft crash in Igbokoda, Ilaje Local Government Area, two days after the incident. He stated that the pilot's final actions saved the coastal community from a greater disaster by steering the aircraft into a swampy area about 200 metres away from the town. Residents reported that the aircraft appeared to have an engine problem before going down. The governor commended the pilot's skill and thanked God that the crash did not occur in the middle of the community.
