Kemi Badenoch, leader of the Conservative Party and MP for North West Essex, said she does not want to live in a country where the English identity of her mixed-race children is questioned. She made the remarks on Wednesday during her speech at the Conservative Party Conference 2026, where she criticised Reform UK MPs over what she described as attempts to question people's identities. Badenoch said she does not want to explain to her son while watching the England football team that some people do not consider black players English. She recalled former England internationals Ian Wright and John Barnes, stating their English identity was not questioned in the same way.
