Coleman Technical Industries Limited has called for stiffer penalties for manufacturers and distributors of counterfeit and substandard cables, citing weak enforcement as a driver of the illicit trade. Managing Director George Onafowokan made the call after a media tour of Coleman's factories in Sagamu, Ogun State. He urged the Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) to strengthen enforcement efforts to protect genuine manufacturers and consumers. Onafowokan argued that confiscating and destroying counterfeit cables without prosecuting offenders would not serve as an effective deterrent.
