A humanitarian worker, Ms. Lydia Chinenye Nwankwo, and a police inspector were killed when suspected bandits attacked communities in Sokoto State. Nwankwo was attacked alongside her team while returning from field operations in Kajiji community, Shagari Local Government Area, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026. Her sister, Chisom Nwankwo, confirmed the incident in a Facebook post on Thursday, October 8. The Sokoto State Police Command has confirmed the attack, and the humanitarian community is in mourning.
