OpenAI released 722 research papers containing AI-created solutions to various mathematical problems on Tuesday. The AI's success in solving ultra-difficult math problems, despite still making errors in simple arithmetic, is attributed to several factors. Solutions to math problems can often be verified, similar to software code, and there is significant overlap between mathematics and AI research. With sufficient computing resources, the AI can perform extensive number crunching that would take humans years, and it does not give up, a capability described as brute force and stamina by a mathematician advising OpenAI.
