Some Premier League clubs have expressed concern over possible political interference in Manchester City's appeal against its guilty verdict for financial rule breaches, following comments by UK Prime Minister Andy Burnham, according to the BBC. Senior club figures told BBC Sport they were "astonished" by Burnham's comments, which appeared to downplay the significance of the verdict, with some questioning whether his intervention could affect the independent appeal process. Burnham, who was mayor of Greater Manchester from 2017 until becoming prime minister this summer, told the BBC he would be "really concerned" if Manchester City's Abu Dhabi-based owners decided to sell the club following the verdict. "I would be really concerned to lose them," Burnham said, adding that they have been a huge partner in building modern Manchester and Manchester City.
