The Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has launched the FuturePHARMA facility in Pretoria to strengthen South Africa's capacity to develop and manufacture essential pharmaceutical products locally. The launch was attended by Ms Lusizo Makhubela, Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Science, Technology and Innovation, who emphasized the importance of sustained investment in science, technology and innovation. The facility aims to address vulnerabilities exposed by dependence on international supply chains during the COVID-19 pandemic.
