Ms. Barrie Freeman, Deputy Special Representative of the Secretary-General for West Africa and the Sahel, reaffirmed UNOWAS support for civil society at the Dakar NGO Forum held from 8 to 10 October. The forum, organized by the African Centre for Democracy and Human Rights Studies, focused on ensuring sustainable availability of water and safe sanitation systems to achieve Agenda 2063 goals. Freeman highlighted the links between human rights, democratic governance, sustainable development, and climate resilience, and stressed that equitable water management is an investment in conflict prevention.
