Amazon is discontinuing its Fire-branded tablets after 15 years, the company has confirmed. An Amazon spokesperson said the company will sell through existing inventory but will no longer manufacture new Fire tablets. The devices are being replaced by a new line of Amazon Alexa Tablets, which feature the Alexa+ voice assistant and run on Google's Android operating system with access to the Google Play Store. The new tablets are priced between $229.99 and $499.99 and are set to ship on October 14 in the US.
