Tax expert Taiwo Oyedele has stated that maintaining fuel subsidy at N500 per litre would cost Nigeria over N16 trillion annually. He warned that such a policy would lead to capital flight, depletion of reserves, and weakening of the naira. He also noted that it would jeopardize progress on inflation, which has allowed the Central Bank to begin lowering interest rates.
