The Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), Rivers State Chapter, has called on public relations practitioners to adopt emerging technologies, innovation, and strategic communication tools to drive development and socio-economic transformation. The charge was made by the chapter’s Chairman, Rev. Francis Asuk, at the opening of the Rivers Public Relations Week 2026, held at the Rivers State University, Port Harcourt. Asuk noted that the rapid evolution of the information ecosystem has fundamentally altered public relations practice, stressing that practitioners can no longer operate within the traditional confines of publicity and media relations. He added that digital platforms have accelerated the spread of information and transformed public discourse, while organisations are increasingly judged by the quality of their communication, stakeholder engagement, and ability to manage their reputation.
