INEC Insists on Supreme Court Verdict, Says Erring Parties Won’t Field Candidates

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has warned that political parties will not be allowed to field candidates whose names were not in the registers submitted at the close of regulatory time for the 2027 elections. This follows a Supreme Court judgment on September 24, 2026, which affirmed the constitutionality of certain sections of the Electoral Act 2026 and upheld INEC's revised timetable. INEC has also sought stakeholders' support as the display of the voters' register begins on October 9 in Sokoto.
