A political storm is gathering in Niger State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with defections from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to opposition parties. Former APC aspirants and ex-cabinet members of Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago have joined the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the African Democratic Congress (ADC). Some legislators who did not secure return tickets have formed a group known as the Group of 15 and are reportedly planning to defect. The development has made the APC jittery.
